April 2025 - Overview of Negotiations- A message from the employees’ President, Greg Frazier

On June 14, 2025 all contracts with Smith’s, Albertson’s and Safeway Farmington expire. Contract negotiations this year will require meeting with three separate Companies at three separate times.  Smith’s has notified us that Albertson’s and Smith’s / Kroger will be serving on each other’s Negotiating Committee.  They have staggered out the bargaining dates with negotiations starting with Smith’s on April 28, 2025 and Albertson’s on May 1, 2025.  Safeway Farmington will begin towards the end of May 2025.

Throughout the entire bargaining process you will see that the Company is for increasing profits and removing rules/restrictions; however, your Union is standing for increasing the wages and adding rules and procedures for the
benefits of the workers.   We should be able to tell quickly if they want to challenge you, by what they propose to change or eliminate. Your Union feels your Company is sharing in gains that you are a part of, and the workers should not be faced with reductions or insignificant wage increases.

What you speak out about will impact you and your family, the community, and all the workers and their families that come after you.  The bargaining process can go much faster if the Company does not propose rollbacks and takeaways.  Your Company is also bargaining with Colorado, California, and Seattle to mention a few since October of 2024.  If most or all these employees are sticking with the Union, your Company will know it and our gains at the bargaining table will be pleasant.

If the workers buy into the Company’s arguments of low increase due to stiff competition, and allow them to scare you from striking if necessary, then your Company will seek reductions and inadequate wage increases.  I hope each of you make an informed decision, do your homework and discover that United We Stand! Divided We Fall!
